Jesus is the Reason

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger".

~Luke 2: 9-12~

I think in this fast-paced world we live in, that we sometimes forget the true meaning of Christmas. It's fun for the kids to get excited about Santa Claus coming, but I think we should try and teach them why we celebrate the season. Before we started homeschooling our children. Amber (who was nine at that time), came home from school and told me about one of her friends that had never heard of the birth of Christ being the reason we celebrate Christmas. And Amber, in all her wisdom for that age, proceeded to tell the little girl all about the birth of Jesus. :::smile::: I sure was a proud of my kid that day! Anyway ~ let's have fun on Christmas, but let's keep in mind the reason why we celebrate it.

God bless you all, and Merry Christmas!

*Note: When I made this page several years ago, I never realized the impact it would have on people. I have received literally hundreds of emails about this particular page of my Christmas site. By reading all the mail, it made me so much more aware of the Christmas season, and I just want to praise God for giving me the ideas to put this page together. I want to thank each and every person who has taken the time to write to me...that means so much! I am also including a prayer that a lovely lady named Helen wrote and sent to me. Thank you, Helen, and thank ALL of you for your kind words!!

My Christmas Prayer
by Helen

For peace and prosperity...for health and happiness.
For kindness and compassion shown to others by each of us.

That our children will cease to be afraid of being abused or feeling neglect.
That parents will show them only their love, and before they act, take time to reflect.

That nations will finally learn to dwell in peace and harmony;
Will show respect for one another and learn they can live compatibly.

That racial differences will have no place to dwell in the hearts of men.
That we can learn to live together by letting it first, in ourselves, begin.

That we'll put our trust in God once more...who is the Creator of this whole universe.
That He might look down upon us with favor and remove from us satan's evil curse!

That we as a nation will turn back to God by giving our hearts and our lives to Him.
I know He will show us compassion and mercy...forgive our transgressions and bring peace once again!

The Meaning of Christian Christmas Symbols

Christmas tree...The tree was an evergreen to symbolize God's everlasting love. They used lights to represent stars of the heavens, and a big star on top to represent the one like the wisemen followed to see Baby Jesus.

Gifts...Giving a gift is an act of love like God's love for us in sending Jesus. Each gift, as beautiful as we can make it, reminds us of the perfect gift, Jesus Christ as our Saviour.

Candle...To show how we are to be a light unto the world just as Jesus is the light unto the world.

Bell...They are used to announce the birth of the Saviour and to call us to worship Him.

Wreath...The wreath's color reminds us of the gracious gifts of God ~ a reminder of the greatest gift in Jesus. The circle tells of God's unending love for us as He offers us salvation.

Holly...Holly's thorn-like leaves remind us of Jesus' crown of thorns. The berries sybolize the drops of blood.

~A Christmas Prayer~

Loving Father, help us to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift & good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, & teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children, & the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake.

Amen!
